Tank / Frontline Build Guide
- Weapon: Sword of Justice (guard / counter)
- Relics: team-defense relics, Path of Honor for stability
- Job: block AoE, hold aggro, land Gavel Bash windows
Co-op Role & Communication
As the Tank role in a 33-player run with no voice chat, communication is your second weapon. Use the emote wheel (Alt / LB) to call mechanics, request heals and celebrate buffs; use pings to mark elites, shrines and danger zones.
The Co-strike meter builds when the lobby attacks together — it fuels Tank-relevant relics, so position near allies during damage windows. Co-op Powers require allies nearby: don't pop them solo. In the Torture Chambers and God's Wrath phases, stick with your squad of 6, then the 3-team Ascension split.
Remember: runs succeed when all 33 survive to the boss. Play conservatively during Wrath phases and prioritize revives over personal DPS padding.
Recommended Perk Tree
| Perk | Why |
|---|---|
| Guard-focused tree | Everything that extends Guard windows and Gavel Bash counter windows. |
| Stamina recovery | Blocking consumes stamina — recovery keeps your Guard up through long casts. |
Relic Selection
| Relic | Best For |
|---|---|
| Path of Honor | Inner Fire — more damage AND less incoming damage, the tank's stable foundation. |
| Team-defense relics | Anything that shields or buffs nearby allies while you hold the front. |
Rotation
Generate Justice by tanking, then spend it on offense or Guard. Guard blocks AoE and projectiles — walk into the boss's ground casts instead of dodging them, protecting the DPS behind you. Gavel Bash is your counterattack: land it in a damage window for brief invulnerability, then reset your position. You're tanky via avoidance, not stats — the kit lets you ignore damage outright when timed right.
Stat Conversion & Perk Synergy
Tank builds convert offense into survivability: Desecrated Paten + Burnt Cincture (Attack → Vitality conversion) with Fortitude of Heart / Bold Revolt / Scourge of Omnipotence.
| Slot | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Perk 1 | Fortitude of Heart | Flat survivability for frontline duty. |
| Perk 2 | Bold Revolt | Aggression that converts to mitigation. |
| Perk 3 | Scourge of Omnipotence | Scales with your Guard timing. |
| Relic | Desecrated Paten + Burnt Cincture | Attack → Vitality conversion for unkillable front. |
Your job: face the boss, Guard the dangerous phases, Bubble Shield your allies. Defiant Denial (shield perk) is a staple for survivability. Hold aggro so the DPS never sees the cast bars — that single job wins boss fights.

Advanced Tank Techniques
Frontline mastery in 33 Immortals is about Guard timing, not stats. Learn each boss's cast telegraph and hold Guard exactly as it resolves — a perfect Guard negates the mechanic entirely and leaves you free to Gavel Bash for the counter window.
In Purgatorio and Paradiso, the tank also plays field anchor: position the boss away from the DPS's safe zones, keep Bubble Shield on the revive lanes, and call the boss's phase transitions so the lobby can pre-position. A tank that dies first is a wipe; a tank that survives the whole fight is the reason the DPS were alive to do damage.
FAQ
Is Sword of Justice good for beginners?
Yes — it's the safest frontline pick. The Guard mechanic lets you ignore boss casts outright, and Justice rewards timing over reflexes.
What relic does a tank take?
Path of Honor for the dual damage/defense buff, plus any team-defense relics that shield the DPS and support around you.
