Subnautica 2 FAQ: answers from official material

This FAQ was rebuilt on 30 September 2026. Older answers mixed official facts with unsourced detail about progression, locations and combat; those answers were withdrawn. Each answer below is limited to what official material supports, with the update or source it comes from.

Does Subnautica 2 have co-op?

Yes. Official Early Access messaging confirms four-player co-op with crossplay between PC and Xbox, alongside solo play. The “Buddy System” update (19 August 2026) added proximity voice chat, revives, trading, emotes and Tracking Tags.

How long will Early Access last?

Unknown Worlds states on the official Early Access page that it expects roughly two to three years in Early Access, based on the first game’s development. Treat that as a developer expectation, not a schedule.

Do creatures from Subnautica 1 or Below Zero return?

Official material describes a brand-new ocean world with its own ecosystem; none of the earlier games’ creatures carry over. A complete named roster with habitat detail has not been published by the developer, which is why this site withdrew its creature entries pending evidence (details).

What changes between updates?

Substantial things. The “Adaptive Measures” update (8 July 2026) added Biolabs and raised Biomods from four to six; the “Buddy System” update added co-op features; the 1 September hotfix fixed, among other things, Collector Leviathan pathing and Tadpole oxygen. A guide detail that does not carry a version date is a liability — which is the maintenance rule this site now follows.

Why were pages withdrawn instead of updated?

Where a claim could not be tied to an official announcement, a patch note or a dated in-game capture, rewording would have left the same unverifiable core. Withdrawn addresses stay online as correction notices without ads, and the home page records the coverage status of every section.
