🎯Destiny & Endings

Nolan's Destiny is the protector arc — his choices are about who to shield during the alien attacks. Protecting the right crew members at the right moments builds trust that unlocks his scientist and humanitarian paths; sacrificing him in Chapter 6's ambush opens a Massacre branch and locks the Forever ending's safest route.

⚔️Survival Tips

His combat checks are reaction-based — the mimic ambush in Chapter 3 and the Chapter 6 corridor fight require fast QTEs. Keep him with the wounded crew in Chapter 4: his protector choices there are the highest-trust source in the game. In the finale, his hold-the-line check buys the crew the time needed for the escape pod.

Role in the crew

This page is the Nolan Stafford character guide: role, Destiny progression, survival stakes, and the endings where Nolan's state matters most.

The two Destiny paths

Like every protagonist in Directive 8020, Nolan Stafford has two opposing Destiny paths. The Crew menu shows a bar for each, and the choices inside Nolan's scenes push it toward one pole or the other. The bars are the game's own progress tracker: if a path is half-full, you know which scenes to revisit once chapter select is available. Destiny progress is per-save but the trophies read your best state, so partial runs still bank progress.

Destinies and the trophy list

Use the game’s supported Turning Points and replay options to explore another branch. The previous reference to a Curator’s Cut or Shared Story route was not supported for Directive 8020.

Survival stakes

Destiny is separate from survival. Nolan can die mid-run — failed QTEs, wrong calls in fatal scenes, or being the wrong person in the wrong room during the mimic's act — and the Crew Manifest trophy wants all five protagonists alive at the end. If Nolan dies on your save, chapter select back to the death scene is the recovery path; the save-everyone route page documents the known lethal beats. A dead protagonist also closes off their Destiny progress for that run, so survival and trophy hunting compound.

FAQ

Is Nolan hard to keep alive?

His protector arc puts him between the crew and danger by design, so his survival tips matter more than most: the do-not-fail moments that involve shielding others are exactly where players lose him. Play his protective choices consistently (they build the trust his Destinies need) and note the episode checkpoints where his survival flags are set.

Is Nolan required for the Crew Manifest trophy?

Crew Manifest wants all five protagonists alive at the end, so Nolan's survival is mandatory for it. The save-everyone route page documents the lethal beats to avoid.

Can Nolan be killed and still finish a Destiny?

A dead protagonist's Destiny progress stops for that run. Chapter select back to the fatal scene keeps both the survival goals and the Destiny bars recoverable.

How do I get Nolan's best ending?

Choose protector options to shield the right crew at key ambushes, especially Chapter 4's wounded-crew scene, to build trust for the scientist and humanitarian paths.
