🧬How Destinies Work

Each character has two opposing Destiny paths that shift with your dialogue and actions. A Destiny "unlocks" when you consistently push one path. Unlocking specific Destinies is required for the best ending route — notably Eisele's Humanitarian and Stafford's The Father.

Destiny conflict warning

Opposing traits fight each other: a highly Rational Laura may never become Sympathetic. All Possible Futures (unlock every Destiny) needs multiple partial playthroughs — use the bars in the Crew menu to track progress.

🎯Key Destiny Moments

DestinyHow to unlock
Osmond — HumanitarianCompassionate choices; choose Honor in Ep 1
Stafford — The FatherEncourage his Ep 5 breakdown: "Never forget why you started."
Eisele — HumanitarianExpose the clone program in Ep 8; requires all prior Eisele-positive choices
Eisele — ScientistProtect the data in Ep 8 instead of exposing
Young — HeroMessage the Andromeda; Humanity wish after the candles
Cernan — PracticalPrioritize Cernan's safety in Episodes 3 and 7
Cooper — PlayfulMaximize Playful over Professional in Ep 2 (sedation chain)

Why Destinies matter beyond role-play

Every playable protagonist in Directive 8020 carries a two-way Destiny track, and the game treats those tracks as first-class progress: the Crew menu shows a bar per character, choices push the bar toward one of two opposing poles, and the trophy list reads that state directly. Unlocking any character's Destiny is the Personality Manifest trophy; clearing every protagonist's is All Possible Futures, the longest unlock in the cabinet.

Destiny also shapes access. A character's path determines which scenes and reveals they reach — Laura Eisele's Rational versus Sympathetic split and Samantha Cooper's Professional versus Playful split each gate different information, and gated information feeds several endings. Because the two poles of one character cannot be maxed in a single pass, Destiny work naturally spreads across a second run or a chapter-select cleanup, which is also where survival fixes happen: Crew Manifest wants all five protagonists alive, and a dead character's Destiny bar stops moving.

Destinies and the trophy list

Destiny achievements are the connective tissue between role-play and the cabinet: unlocking every major character's Destiny (All Possible Futures) is the longest achievement in the game, and Laura's Humanitarian Destiny is a hard requirement of the true ending. The per-character pages map each path's unlock moments; the short version is that consistency beats grand gestures — Destinies track the pattern of your choices, not single heroic beats.

FAQ

Can you mix Destiny paths across characters?

Yes, and most runs should: the crew's Destinies are independent tracks, so Nolan's protector arc can develop while Samantha stays on the science path. The only hard coupling is at the finale, where Eisele's Destiny choice picks the ending fork. Mixing is actually the efficient play — it spreads trust development across the crew instead of stacking every choice on one character.

FAQ

Who should you play first in a second run?

Whoever's opposite Destiny branch the first run left locked: each character page maps both paths, and a second run that flips one or two branches per character covers the All Possible Futures achievement faster than replaying the same personality. Mechanically, Samantha's science route is the highest-information play for a second pass — her investigation reveals what the mimics are early enough to change how the whole story reads.
