🔧Josef Cernan — Destiny Guide

🎯Destiny & Endings

Josef's Destiny is the pragmatist arc — utility-first decisions over ideology. His engineering checks unlock the repair routes that bypass the most dangerous segments, and he's the only character who can bypass the power-plant lockout in the finale. Keeping him alive gates the Beacon ending's technical route.

🛠️Survival Tips

His checks are logic-based — routing power and repairing panels. In the Chapter 6 power plant, his panel sequence is the slowest but safest; rushing it causes a fatal surge. Route him to repair duties whenever the group splits — his checks are the only way past the sealed engineering bay, and keeping him alive is a prerequisite for the Docked ending's good variant.

Role in the crew

Josef Cernan is one of the five playable protagonists of Directive 8020, with a personal Destiny track that reacts to the choices made in their scenes. This page covers their role in the crew, how their Destiny diverges, and what it means for the ending set.

The two Destiny paths

Like every protagonist in Directive 8020, Josef Cernan has two opposing Destiny paths. The Crew menu shows a bar for each, and the choices inside Josef's scenes push it toward one pole or the other. The bars are the game's own progress tracker: if a path is half-full, you know which scenes to revisit once chapter select is available. Destiny progress is per-save but the trophies read your best state, so partial runs still bank progress.

Destinies and the trophy list

Use the game’s supported Turning Points and replay options to explore another branch. The previous reference to a Curator’s Cut or Shared Story route was not supported for Directive 8020.

Survival stakes

Destiny is separate from survival. Josef can die mid-run — failed QTEs, wrong calls in fatal scenes, or being the wrong person in the wrong room during the mimic's act — and the Crew Manifest trophy wants all five protagonists alive at the end. If Josef dies on your save, chapter select back to the death scene is the recovery path; the save-everyone route page documents the known lethal beats. A dead protagonist also closes off their Destiny progress for that run, so survival and trophy hunting compound.

FAQ

Do Josef's Destiny choices affect the ending?

Indirectly but meaningfully — Destiny paths steer which scenes and reveals a character accesses, and several endings hinge on those reveals. The ending set and the Destiny trophies therefore reward different emphasis across playthroughs.

Is Josef required for the Crew Manifest trophy?

Crew Manifest wants all five protagonists alive at the end, so Josef's survival is mandatory for it. The save-everyone route page documents the lethal beats to avoid.

Why is Josef important for endings?

He's the only character who can bypass the power-plant lockout and the sealed engineering bay — keeping him alive unlocks the Beacon ending's technical route and the Docked ending's good variant.
